Anushka began an acting course and started auditioning for films in addition to her modelling career. Anushka began her career as an actor in the year 2008 on Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Shah Rukh Khan. The actress took a day off to prepare for her test on screen and refused to perform an unplanned version. Then she was commissioned for three movies as part of the Yash Raj Films label. The film in which she starred performed the part of a young bride to a middle-aged man (the part Shah Rukh Khan was playing). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka was seen along with Shahid Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, Vir Das as well as Meiyang Chang in the 2010 movie "Badmash Company". The film received mixed reviews. Anushka Sharma was the lead in the same movie "Band Baaja Baaraat. She portrayed a Punjabi woman in the middle class who owns her own wedding business.
